Telegram CEO blames Apple for delay in major update release

In his Telegram channel, Durov said the upcoming update had been stuck in Apple's "review" for two weeks. "The only thing that we find discouraging is that we are often unable to distribute the new versions of Telegram due to the obscure 'review process' imposed on all mobile apps by the tech monopolies," Durov said. "For example, our upcoming update -- which is about to revolutionise how people express themselves in messaging -- has been stuck in Apple's 'review' for two weeks, without explanation or any feedback provided by Apple," he added.
Telegram launches paid subscriptions service at $5 a month

The company said that it now has over 700 million monthly active users (MAUs) and has become one of the top-five downloaded apps worldwide this year. "This growth is solely from personal recommendations. Telegram has never paid to advertise its apps," the company said in a statement late on Sunday.
Subscription-based 'Telegram Premium' coming this month

Durov said that the new paid offer will go "above and beyond" what Telegram currently offers, reports 9To5Google. Much of what spurred the decision to introduce Telegram Premium was the demands of the platform's biggest fans. "After giving it some thought, we realised that the only way to let our most demanding fans get more while keeping our existing features free is to make those raised limits a paid option," Durov said.
Telegram adds download manager, live streaming with other apps

The Download Manager is new to Telegram and can be accessed from a logo in the search bar that pops up when you are downloading something. Within that area, one would see all downloads in one place. Telegram users will also get a new menu that will enable them to select and send multiple files easily.
Telegram's latest update adds stickers, improves message reactions

Telegram said that its animated stickers have unmatched quality and efficiency -- needing less than 30 KB of data per sticker. However, creating such stickers requires experience and specialised software such as Adobe Illustrator. "Like always, you can publish your packs with the @Stickers bot -- or add some of the new sets made by others," it added.
Telegram adds message reactions, in-app translation in latest update

Users can now double tap on a message bubble and a small thumbs-up emoji will appear at the bottom of that message. A user can change the emoji for this quick reaction in the app under Settings > Stickers and Emoji > Quick Reaction. For more reactions, tap and hold on a message bubble. Telegram is also rolling out support for "Spoiler Alert" messages that blur out selected portions of text until a user clicks on the option.

Company founder Pavel Durov said that Telegram would obey an election law barring campaigning during elections, calling the law "legitimate", reports Engadget. The move comes despite the nature of the bots and Durov's past statements. One of the bots, Smart Voting, was only meant to identify candidates that could unseat the dominant United Russia party, not just Navalny's Russia of the Future party.
