The 49-year-old Ganguly, who had undergone treatment for a heart condition earlier this year, was admitted to the hospital and a team of doctors are assessing his heart conditions. However, the Narayana Health City has not given any updates about his health, but it is believed to be a routine check-up.

According to reports, Ganguly had mild fever on Sunday (December 26), and got the positive report on Monday evening (December 27). Ganguly, who had undergone treatment for a heart condition earlier this year, was admitted to Woodlands Hospital soon after his COVID-positive report came in. Family sources were quoted as saying that the hospitalisation was a precautionary measure and there was no cause for alarm.

However, Ganguly had earlier reckoned that he personally asked Kohli to not give up the role. The cricketing fraternity was left all confused as skipper’s statement contradicted what the BCCI chief had earlier stated. According to a report in crictracker.com, Ganguly spoke on Kohli’s attitude on Saturday. In an event in Gurgaon, he was asked which player’s attitude he likes best.

During his pre-departure press conference ahead of the tour of South Africa, Kohli on Wednesday said that he was never asked to stay on as T20 skipper when he informed the board about his decision to relinquish the post, contradicting Ganguly's statement which suggested that the star batter was asked to reconsider his decision. Asked about Kohli's comments, the BCCI chief refused to speak on the whole controversy.

On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India declared Rohit Sharma as India's ODI captain. On this decision the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has opened up and said that the board and selectors took this decision together. In addition to this he also said that the board and he personally had words with Virat Kohli over the decision. The tenure of Rohit Sharma as ODI captain is likely to begin in the series against South Africa in January.

Ganguly's move is seen as a bid to avoid conflict of interest as the RPSG group is now a part of the IPL bandwagon. "I have resigned," Ganguly said to Cricbuzz on Wednesday. As per the ATK Mohun Bagan FC's website, Ganguly's name is mentioned as a Director with Sanjiv Goenka as Chairman of the Board of Directors. While the conflict-of-interest controversy settles down, another one is taking shape with regards to CVC Capital.
