Local smartphone manufacturing volume grows 7% YoY in Q1
According to market research firm Counterpoint, the local smartphone manufacturing ecosystem stayed resilient amid global component shortages. "Smartphone manufacturing is increasing in India. In 2021, the shipments of 'Made in India' smartphones crossed 190 million units," Prachir Singh, Senior Research Analyst, said in a statement.

Global smartphone shipments to contract 3% to 1.36 bn units in 2022
Last year, the global smartphone shipments grew 4 per cent (on-year) to reach 1.39 billion units. According to Counterpoint Research, the overall supply situation is expected to gradually improve in 2022 compared to the previous year, although shortages of several parts have not been resolved yet. On the macroeconomic front, expectations for recovery are now falling sharply and more concerns are spreading centered on China's prolonged recession and the Ukraine crisis.
Motorola becomes third largest smartphone brand in US for 1st time
According to Counterpoint Research, this is the first time ever that Motorola, with over 10 per cent market share, has become the third original equipment manufacturer (OEM) in the US for a full year. "Motorola has been a key OEM filling the void left by LG's exit. The OEM has all the key characteristics major carriers look for – a full portfolio, ability to ramp volumes, and low return rates," said Research Director Jeff Fieldhack.

The teardown via PBKreviews (via MacRumors) reveals the new iPhone SE has a larger 2018 mAh battery, versus the 1,821 mAh battery of its predecessor. Apple dominated the list of top 10 best-selling smartphones in 2021 globally, as seven out 10 smartphones in the list were iPhones, a new report said. According to market research firm Counterpoint, the top 10 best-selling smartphone models contributed 19 per cent to the total global smartphone unit sales in 2021, compared to 16 per cent in 2020.
Samsung rolls out new update to undo app performance throttling
Samsung has started pushing out a new update to Solve the app throttling issue on Galaxy S22 series smartphones in South Korea. Component shortages, production disruption and low stock availability are expected to continue to disrupt global smartphone sales in 2022, a new report said on Wednesday. According to Gartner, smartphone sales rebounded in the first half of 2021, following a 12.5 per cent decline in 2020.
