Fall in consumer, education demand hampers tablet growth

Inflation and fears of a recession are at the forefront of consumers' minds, and spending on tablets has taken a backseat as the need for pandemic-era levels of use has fallen, according to a Canal's report. "Unlike notebooks, tablets are not vital for business productivity, so commercial demand has not helped to offset the drop in consumer purchases," said analyst Himani Mukka.

The Q2 global smartphone figures are the lowest quarterly figure since Q2 2020, when the pandemic first hit. Samsung led the market with 61.8 million smartphones shipped and a 21 per cent market share. Despite the weak seasonality, Apple held on to second place, shipping 49.5 million iPhones for a 17 per cent market share.
China smartphone sales hits new low, Honor fastest growing

Smartphone brand Honor says 'maintaining' India business operations

According to a report in the South China Morning Post, the company's business in India will remain in operation, managed by local partners, but the brand will adopt a "very safe approach." Honor CEO Zhao Ming told state-run newspaper Securities Times that Honor formed the India team a few years ago but chose to leave for "obvious reasons", the report said.

"China's economy grew by only 4.8 per cent YoY in Q1 2022, lower than the 5.5 per cent annual growth target set by the government, as the country was weighed down by the pandemic and related lockdowns," Mengmeng Zhang, Research Analyst.
