New Samsung wireless earbuds to be cheaper than predecessor
Samsung is expected to unveil its new wireless earbuds, the Galaxy Buds 2, at its online Unpacked event on Wednesday, along with new foldable smartphones. Market researcher Counterpoint Research said the new hearables product is predicted to come out with a cheaper price tag compared to the Galaxy Buds Pro earbuds that were released in January.

By 2023, Counterpoint Research expects a 10 times growth in foldable smartphone shipments. Samsung will unveil its next-generation foldable smartphones at a virtual event on August 11. "Although the market for foldables is still niche, we expect 2021 shipments of Samsung foldable smartphones to grow significantly, driven by improved design and hardware, and competitive pricing," according to the report.
Samsung likely to grab 88% share of foldable smartphones this year
The global foldable market is estimated to triple from a year earlier to reach around 9 million units in 2021, and Samsung, the world's largest smartphone vendor, is projected to represent 88 percent of them, according to market tracker Counterpoint Research. Although the market for foldables is still niche, we expect 2021 shipments of Samsung foldable smartphones to grow significantly.
Samsung slips to 2nd spot in European smartphone market in Q2
Samsung made up a market share of 24 percent in the April-June period after shipping 12 million smartphones to Europe, down 7 percent from a year earlier, according to a report from market researcher Strategy Analytics. The South Korean tech giant was the only player among the top five smartphone suppliers in Europe to see an on-year decline in shipments.

Samsung had a market share of 7 percent in the April-June period after shipping 900,000 Chromebooks that refer to laptops or tablets running on Google's Chrome operating system (OS), according to a report from market researcher International Data Corporation (IDC). Samsung's second-quarter Chromebook shipments increased 179.2 percent from a year earlier when it logged a market share of 4.3 percent, reports Yonhap news agency.

The South Korean giant said it sold 60 million units of handsets in the second quarter, down from 81 million units in the previous quarter, with the portion of smartphones reaching the mid-90 percent range. Its tablet sales reached 8 million units, same as the first quarter. Overall, Samsung's IT and Mobile Communications (IM) division had a relatively tepid performance due to the resurgence of Covid-19 in major markets.
