He was surprised by his skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who sent him up the order after Devon Conway was out for zero in the first over. He blasted the fastest half-century of IPL 2023 off 19 deliveries and put CSK on road to victory in their chase of a modest target of 158.

CSK made two changes in their side as Ben Stokes was out with an injury while Moeen Ali is unwell. "We've had some injury concerns. Stokes has an injury. Mo (Moeen) is not well and in their place, we've got (Ajinkya) Rahane and (Dwaine) Pretorius. Other than that, same team," Dhoni said after the toss. Rahane will be making his debut for CSK.

Sharp drop in TV viewership for IPL 2023 opener; digital viewership on rise; report

According to information received here, Star Sports, the official broadcaster of the tournament, recorded a TVR of 7.29 for the opening fixture, a sharp drop from the 2021 edition (8.25) and 2020 (10.36). The engagement numbers for the 1st game came in at a lowly 33 per cent, the second lowest in the past six seasons and the BARC numbers were also reflective of this drop with the curtain raiser recorded at 22 per cent as opposed to previous year's 23.1 per cent.
