Antigua launches probe into Choksi's 'possible abduction'

According to Antigua Ness Room, a news outlet in Carribean island, Prime Minister Gaston Browne has said that Choksi's lawyers wrote to the police commissioner providing the names of the people he believes abducted him. Browne said both the police and the government are taking the allegations seriously. While speaking to a radio, Browne said that he has learnt that Choksi has filed a complaint with Antigua and Barbuda police that he was abducted and taken to Dominica.

According to Antigua News Room, a news outlet based in the Caribbean island, it was adjourned to allow lawyers for Choksi and the Dominican government to agree on the language to be used with respect to the injunction filed to prevent his removal from Dominica. It said that both parties are expected to meet to discuss the matter and to inform the judge, who will set a new court date.

According to Dominica News Online, a news outlet in the Caribbean island, the Magistrate's court in Dominica has denied bail to Choksi after the government prosecutor argued that he is facing 11 offences in India and extradition proceedings in Antigua and could be a flight risk. The magistrate has adjourned the matter to June 14.

According to informed sources, an eight-member team from India reached Dominica on Saturday afternoon in a private jet that left from New Delhi on Friday evening. Choksi’s Antiguan lawyer Justin Simon said the news of his client being transferred to a hospital from police custody was true. Simon implied that the news coming out of Dominican publications were true and that he would not send ‘fake news information’. Earlier, Antiguan Prime Minister Gaston Browne claimed that Choksi reportedly took his girlfriend on a “romantic trip” to Dominica where he was caught.
