Professor Sudhir Jain is new BHU vice-chancellor

The BHU registrar office has confirmed the appointment of Prof Jain as the vice-chancellor for a term of three years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. BHU spokesman Rajesh Singh said Prof Jain will assume charge as 28th vice-chancellor of the university.

Nepali Army chief coferred with honorary general rank of Indian Army

Sharma was conferred the honorary rank at a special ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, a communiqe from the President's office said. The citation mentioned that throughout his exemplary career, Sharma, an alumnus of Nepali Military Academy who was commissioned into the Nepali Army in March 1984, has demonstrated dynamic leadership, outstanding professionalism and has also been an advocate of subsiting modernisation process of the Nepali Army.
Padma Shri awardee Harekala Hajabba accorded hero's welcome in Karnataka

The whole country saluted the 65-year-old Hajabba for his contribution and appreciated his humility for walking barefoot towards the dais to receive the honour from President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday. Hundreds of people gathered at the Mangaluru International Airport to welcome him. As soon as he landed and emerged from the lobby, his fans surrounded him and felicitated him with bouquets and shawls amid cheering and clapping.

President Ram Nath Kovind presented them the awards at the civil investiture ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Himmatram Bhambhu from Rajasthan's Nagaur district has not just raised a forest with 11,000 trees on 25 bigha land in a village near Nagaur but has planted more than five lakh trees in five years. His fights for saving the environment includes taking cudgels on behalf of the wild animals against hunters and poachers and being more vigilant than the Forest Department.

Venkaiah Naidu remembered called him as a "colossal figure" in the freedom struggle, a messiah for peasants, a sagacious statesman, organiser par excellence and epitome of wisdom.
President to celebrate Dussehra with jawans at Drass

"On October 14, the President will perform Sindhu Darshan puja at the Sindhu Ghat in Leh. He will also interact with the troops at Udhampur in the evening," a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said on Wednesday. On October 15, the President will pay tributes at the Kargil War Memorial in Drass and interact with the officers and jawans, it added.
Covid united all Indians, says President Kovind

He was speaking on the occasion of the inauguration of the newly built Teaching Hospital of the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences at Chamarajanagar, Karnataka on Thursday. "We faced a devastating wave of Covid infections this year. It was a serious crisis, but it also united all Indians in the fight against the invisible enemy," he noted.
