India's Omicron tally climbs to 781, Delhi tops with 238 cases

The Union health ministry on Wednesday morning said that the Omicron infection has so far spread into 21 states and union territories. Out of the 238 Omicron cases detected in Delhi, 57 of them have been discharged. According to the Ministry data, Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, West Bengal have reported Omicron cases in two-digit figures.
Covid-19 Precautionary Dose:  Senior citizens won't require  doctor’s certificate for third jab

The Centre on Tuesday said that senior citizens with comorbidities will not need a doctor’s certificate to be eligible for the third dose of the Covid vaccine. In addition to this, they will also not be required to upload or provide a medical certificate regarding their specified co-morbidities. However, people above 60 years of age must consult their doctors before taking the jab.

The Delhi government extended the night curfew and issued orders to shut schools, cinemas, and gyms in the city. However, shops in malls will continue to operate but on an odd-even basis. The national capital on Monday registered 331 new Covid-19 cases, the highest single-day rise recorded since June 9.
61% of eligible Indians fully vaccinated against COVID-19: Govt

"89 per cent of the eligible population in India has received at least the first vaccine dose. 61 per cent of the eligible population has received the second dose," the Health Secretary said while addressing a joing press conference with Dr Balram Bhargava, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General, on Friday. 
Omicron Update: India records 415 new cases, 115 recoveries

India reported 122 new cases of the new Covid19 variant in last 24 hours, according to the goverment data. Maharashtra accounts for the highest number of Omicron infections with 108 cases. Maharashtra is followed by Delhi with 79, Gujarat with 43 cases, Telangana with 38,  Kerala has a total of 37 Omicron cases and Tamil Nadu has reported 34 cases. Interestingly, North east states of India remain untouched from the  new variant.
Delhi gears up to handle 1 lakh daily cases amid Omicron scare

The government will also increase the daily Covid testing capacity from around 60,000 to 70,000 at present, to 3 lakh per day, while strengthening the home isolation module to handle 1 lakh positive cases daily.
Over 200 Omicron cases in India: Centre asks states to 'activate war rooms', night curfews'

The Union government has pointed out  that the Omicron variant is three times more transmissible than Delta and therefore,  has asked the states/UT governments to "activate war rooms", impose night curfews, boost vaccination, and keep analyzing trends and surges. In the letter, the ministry has mentioned a series of prevention and containment measures to be taken to curb the virus. Currently the country has registered over 200 cases of Omicron variant.
Omicron 3 times more transmissible than Delta, gear up: Centre

"Based on current scientific evidence, the Variant of Concern Omicron is at least 3 times more transmissible than the Delta Variant. Besides, the Delta VOC is still present in different parts of the country. Hence, even greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making and strict & prompt containment action is required at the local and district level," the ministry said in a letter to the states and UTs.
No evidence to suggest existing vaccines don't work on Omicron: Govt

"While there is no evidence to suggest that existing vaccines do not work on Omicron, some of the mutations reported on spike gene may decrease the efficacy of existing vaccines," Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya told the Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Delhi reports two new Omicron cases; tally touches 24

According to Delhi Health Department, of the 24 cases, 12 have been discharged from the hospital and the remaining 12 are under treatment. Following the rise in the new Covid variant Omicron infection in the city, Delhi government has prepared 65 oxygen beds operational at Commonwealth Games Villages Covid centre.
