Nupur Sharma Prophet Remark Row

The posters, containing "I support Nupur Sharma" were distributed at several places and important Chowks, educational centres, parks and temples in the city. Sources have said that it could be a handiwork of anti-social elements to create disturbance in the area. They probably pasted the posters on Sunday night. The Gopalganj administration, however, has now removed them.

Officials of the district administrations said that the prohibitory orders have been promulgated in view of the emerging situation on the law and order front after the controversial statement and protests have been seen in many places of the country as reported in various media. The DMs' orders said that no procession, rally, dharna (demonstration), distribution of leaflets, banners and posters attracting breach of public peace and tranquility will be allowed in these three districts.

On Friday, protests were witnessed in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Ranchi, Ahmedabad, Navi Mumbai, Ludhiana, Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir with the agitators demanding action and arrest of the suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma and her former party colleague Naveen Kumar Jindal. The BJP has suspended Sharma and expelled Jindal from the party. Cricketer-turned-politician, Gambhir said that nobody has supported the statements made by Sharma.

The Minister's remarks came during a visit to Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district on Saturday. The society should have to be vigilant against such activities, said the Minister. "The Centre is vigilant and whatever is permissible under the law will be done in this matter. However, such a tendency to fuel rift in multicultural countries is a challenge and a concern as well," he added.

The protestors produced a letter on the letter pad of 'Sanatan Seva Sansthan' for the rally but the police refused and detained a few of them. They argued that when demonstrations could take place in Dariapur and teen darwaza without permission then why couldn't they. But the police convinced them and then released them. The crowd then dispersed.

A Delhi court on Friday sent 30 All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party activists to 3-day judicial custody on various charges, including rioting, during a protest against suspended Bharatiya Janata Party leaders who had made controversial remarks against Prophet Mohammed. Several members of the AIMIM had gathered outside the Parliament Street police station to register their protest.

An FIR was lodged against the protesters and they were accordingly arrested under sections 147 (Punishment for rioting), 149 (Every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence commit�ted in prosecution of common object), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

After registration of FIR he said, "I've received an excerpt of the FIR. This is the first FIR I've seen that's not specifying what the crime is. Imagine an FIR about a murder where cops don't mention the weapon or that the victim bled to death. I don't know which specific remarks of mine have attracted the FIR."

Citing examples of past statements of some top BJP leaders, Rahul Gandhi said that "Fringe is BJPs core". Rahul Gandhi's remarks came in the wake of a major global pushback mostly from Gulf countries in protest against comments made by BJP spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal, who were removed from the party later.
