NSE's new investor registrations crosses 50 lakh mark

New investor registrations witnessed a 2.5 times growth in four months of FY22, compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. "From the geographical presence point of view, 36 per cent new investors registered are from north Indian states, While west Indian states accounts for 30 per cent, southern Indian states accounts for 22 per cent and the remaining 12 per cent are from the east Indian states," the NSE said in a note.
Equity indices in green, metal stocks surge

Healthy buying was witnessed in metal stocks. Around 10.25 a.m., Sensex was trading at 52,977.55, higher by 125.28 points or 0.24 per cent from its previous close of 52,852.27. It opened at 52,995.72 and has so far touched an intra-day high of 53,024.70 and a low of 52,880.58 points. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange was trading at 15,870.55, higher by 46.10 points or 0.29 per cent from its previous close.
Sensex inches higher to reclaim 53,000-mark amid choppy trade

Healthy buying was witnessed in healthcare and IT stocks. Around 10.20 a.m., Sensex was at 53,007.05, higher by 31.25 points or 0.06 per cent from the previous close of 52,975.80. It opened at 52,985.26 and has touched an intraday high of 53,052.68 and a low of 52,783.63 points. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange was trading at 15,867.55, higher by 11.50 points or 0.07 per cent from its previous close.
New-age stocks poised to enter Nifty50 index

An ICICI Securities report said that based on data till July 19, the upcoming semi-annual NIFTY50 reshuffle could result in Info Edge being the closest contender to replace IOCL on September 29. "However, Info Edge is marginally behind in terms of average free-float market capitalisation criteria ($5bn and 3.7 per cent lower than 1.5x that of IOCL."
Treading with caution: Markets to remain under valuation pressure

According to market watchers, inflationary and growth concerns will continue to impact investors' sentiments. The key equity indices were closed on Wednesday on account of Eid. For the week so far, NSE Nifty50 is down 1.83 per cent after making multiple tops on weekly charts in the 15,901-15,962 band. Besides, market watchers, expect some mild recovery till the 15,962 level is not breached, however, possibility of a correction still remains.
Sensex plunges 500 points amid selloff in metal and finance stocks

The across-the-board selloff was led by metal and finance stocks. Around 12.20 p.m., Sensex was trading at 52,040.60, lower by 512.8 points or 0.98 per cent from its previous close of 52,553.40. It opened at 52,432.88 and has touched an intra-day high of 52,465.03 and a low of 52,013.51 points. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange was trading at 15,626.25.
Sensex down 200 points, banking, oil & gas stocks fall

Heavy selling pressure was witnessed in banking, oil and gas, metal and auto stocks. Around 9.20 a.m., Sensex was trading at 52,338.24, lower by 215.16 points or 0.41 per cent from the previous close of 52,553.40 points. It opened at 52,432.88, and has touched an intra-day high of 52,465.03 and a low of 52,307.99 points. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange was trading at 15,691.15.
Profit booking, global cues subdue equity markets

Initially, the equity markets had a gap-down opening due to negative global cues. Consequently, the BSE Sensex traded at 52,756.55 points, at 10.30 a.m., lower by 383.51 points or 0.72 per cent from its previous close. The Nifty50 on the National Stock Exchange traded at 15,822.25, lower by 101.15 points or 0.64 per cent from its previous close.
Record broker defaults cause crippling losses to investors

This is the highest number of broker defaults in the past 20 years. Until then, there were 18 broker defaults on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). If the brokers have a membership of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), they are suspended by that exchange too. Ten more brokers have been defaulted or been expelled by the NSE between December 2020 and July 2021.
