PM Modi to attend swearing-in of new governments in Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President J.P. Nadda and a few Union ministers are likely to attend these events in three state capitals. Official and BJP sources said that the swearing-in-ceremony of the new Meghalaya Chief Minister and his council of ministers would be held in Shillong at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, while the swearing-in in Nagaland will take place in Kohima at 1.45 p.m.

For the second consecutive time, the BJP will form the government with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) in Nagaland. The saffron party had won 12 seats in 2018, and has won 12 out of the 20 seats it contested this time, while the NDPP has won 25 out of the 40 seats it contested. Together, both the parties won 37 seats in the recently held Assembly elections.

The Congress, which governed the state for many years till 2003, had contested 23 seats but drew a blank once again. The grand old party had no legislator in the outgoing Assembly. The NDPP won 25 seats, eight more than its 2018 tally, while the BJP secured 12 seats, same as last elections.

As per ECI, NDPP is leading in 24 seats with one victory and it's ally BJP is leading in 23 seats with two wins in the 60-member Assembly where election was conducted in 59 seats. Congress is reduced to two seats and is way behind NCP which is leading in five seats. LJP(RV) headed by Chirag Paswan is leading on three seats.
Counting of votes in Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland on Thursday

The poll officials said that prohibitory orders under 144 Cr Pc have been promulgated in and around all the locations of the counting centers as a precautionary measure. Assembly elections were held on February 16 in Tripura, where 89.95 per cent of the 28.14 lakh voters exercised their franchise. Officials said that votes will be counted in 60 counting centers.
Over 85% turnout in Nagaland, Meghalaya polls on Monday

Polling percentage was 83.85 per cent in Nagaland and 85.59 in Meghalaya in the 2018 Assembly polls. Election officials of the two states said that poll percentage would further increase after the calculation of postal ballots. Thousands of polling staff, security personnel, and other workers engaged in election related duties, and 80 plus senior citizens and physically challenged voters cast their votes through the postal ballots.
Nagaland polls: Over 83% turnout recorded, several incidents of violence reported

Polling percentage was 83.85 in the 2018 Assembly polls, and the 2023 turnout is likely to increase after compilation of the reports of all the Returning Officers, the officials said. According to election officials, voting was largely peaceful across the northeastern state except for some incidents of violence in five districts -- Mokokchung. Wokha, Mon, Zunheboto and Tseminyu.
Exit Polls: BJP to retain Tripura, Meghalaya sees four-cornered contest

In Meghalaya, polling was held at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies, while in Nagaland voting was held in 59 out of 60 Assembly constituencies. The Matrize exit poll for Meghalaya predicted 21-26 seats for the NPP, 6-11 seats to the BJP, 8-13 to the TMC, 3-6 for the Congress and 10-19 for others.

After casting his vote at Tuophema polling station in Kohima district, he said that it is very significant and encouraging that the NSCN-IM and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on January 14 issued a joint declaration that they would strive forward to expedite the Naga peace talks with the Central government, protecting the Naga culture, tradition, identity and history.
