Suryakumar started on a sedate note after Ishan Kishan had given Mumbai Indians a whirlwind start with a 21-ball 42, and raced to his half-century in 26 balls. He raised 140 runs for the third wicket partnership with Wadhera (52 not out off 34 balls) in just 66 deliveries as Mumbai raced to 200/4 in 16.3 overs, chasing Royal Challengers Bangalore's 199/6 in 20 overs built around blazing half-centuries by Faf du Plessis (65) and Glenn Maxwell (68).

Maxwell blazed his way to 68 off 33 deliveries, hitting eight boundaries and four maximums while Faf struck 65 off 41 balls, smacking five boundaries and three sixes as they rescued Royal Challengers Bangalore from the early setback of losing former skipper Virat Kohli for 1 in the first over.

"Good pitch, chased down targets well, a good opportunity to have runs in front of us," said Rohit at the toss. "(It's a) Typical Mumbai pitch. Has a bit of grass cover, but there are some dry patches. Not sure how it'll play. We've never looked at the table so much, focused on playing good cricket, rest will take care of itself," the Mumbai Indians skipper added.

He did not concede a single boundary in his spell on Saturday night, with the standout being taking out Nehal Wadhera with an accurate and fiery 145kph yorker and denying Mumbai the finishing kick they needed. The win also means Chennai recorded their first win over Mumbai at home after 4,777 days, making it just the second time after 2014 that they recorded two league stage wins over the visitors. With the convincing victory, Chennai also climb to second place in the points table, while Mumbai continue to be in sixth position.

Jitesh, meanwhile, continued his good form to be unbeaten on 49 off 27 balls, smashing five fours and two sixes.

After winning the toss, Rohit said uncapped India pacer Akash Madhwal, who plays for Uttarakhand in domestic cricket, replaces injured Australia fast bowler Riley Meredith in the playing eleven. "It's a good pitch, we have chased down targets pretty well, so will stick to our strengths. You always want to have a score in front of you on such pitches."

"I watched him (Jaiswal) last year, this year he's taken his game to the next level. I asked him 'where did you get the power from'. He said he's been going to the gym, that's good for him, good for Indian cricket and RR as well," Rohit said at the post-match presentation.
