After filing his nomination from the Aizawl East-1 seat, Zoramthanga said that his party’s main opponent was the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) and not the Congress.

Addressing reporters here, the Congress MP, who arrived in Mizoram on Monday on a two-day visit, urged people not to vote for the BJP, MNF and the ZPM in the interest of protecting their religion, culture and languages.

Parties, including the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress, BJP, Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), and the state's largest NGO Young Mizo Association (YMA) have urged the poll panel to change the date of vote counting (December 3) as Sunday is a sacred day for Christians, and the entire day is devoted to church services across the state.

The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), in its report said that out of 39 sitting MLAs analysed, two i.e. five per cent MLAs have declared criminal cases against themselves.

The list was announced days after Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge chaired the meeting of the Central Election Committee (CEC) here, which was also attended by Rahul Gandhi and many party leaders.
