She is the eldest child of late Mufti Muhammad Sayeed. Her sister, Rubiaya Sayeed, was kidnapped by the JKLF in 1989 when her father was the Union Home Minister. She took her law degree from Kashmir University and later worked for sometime with Bombay Mercantile Bank and a private airline.
Mehbooba Mufti asked to vacate high-security Gupkar Road residence

Official sources said the Estates Department has served a notice to Mufti asking her to vacate the Fair View residence as soon as possible. Fair View was the official residence of Mehmooba Mufti and her father, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed when they were Chief Ministers. The law that permitted former Chief Ministers to occupy official residences for life was amended by the Centre in 2020.

Reacting to her house arrest, Mufti said on her Twitter page, "GOI wants to push the plight of Kashmiri pandits under the rug because its their callous policies that've led to unfortunate targeted killings of those who chose not to flee. Projecting us mainstream as their enemy is why Ive been placed under house arrest today".
Mehbooba seeks all-party meet to oppose right to vote for non-locals

Addressing a press conference here, Mufti said that she has already spoken to Dr.Farooq Abdullah, head of People's alliance for Gupkar declaration (PAGD) and president of National Conference (NC) to convene an all-party meeting to decide on the future course of action to oppose and fight the decision announced by the election commission on Wednesday that anybody living ordinarily in J&K can vote here.

NC, PDP to contest J&K Assembly polls jointly

Addressing media here, NC President and the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) Chairman, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said: "We will contest the elections together. There is a political party that said that they have left the alliance. "The truth is that they were never part of the alliance. They had come to break us from within." His reference was to the Peoples Conference (PC) headed by Sajad Gani Lone who had initially joined the PAGD, but later left the grouping.
