Delhi's verdict a message for nation to do positive politics: Kejriwal after AAP's MCD win

While addressing the party members at AAP headquarters here, Kejriwal said the people were fed up with the negative politics and will not tolerate that anymore. "We don't believe in negative politics and don't do the politics of abusing one another. We had asked the vote in the name of good governance, better education system and healthcare and for the honest government, and the people have blessed us with their support," Kejriwal said.

The saffron party also crossed the 100 mark and secured 104 seats. The Congress won nine wards, while three independent candidates have also managed to win, as per official trends. A total of 126 seats were required to win the election.

Also in attendance were senior party leader Raghav Chaddha, as well as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Addressing the media at the party headquarters, spokesperson Sanjeev Jha said that the Mayor will be from AAP. "The BJP had covered Delhi in garbage, it'll be cleaned and Arvind Kejriwal's government will be formed in MCD. People of Delhi had decided to bring AAP in MCD so that Delhi become clean and beautiful," he said.

There is a gap of 21 seats between the two parties. According to the official trend at 12.30 p.m, the AAP is maintaining a lead in 31 seats and BJP is ahead in 19. Congress, which has won in five seats, is also leading in as many wards. One independent candidate has won. A total of 126 seats are needed to win the elections. Counting for the 250 wards of the civic agency began at 8 a.m. on Wednesday amid tight security arrangements at 42 centres. There are a total of 1,349 candidates in the fray.

The Congress is leading in 11 wards, Independent on 3 while Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) are ahead in one each. As the trends showed AAP leading, scores of party workers started gathering in the party's headquarters here. BJP has won in six wards, while AAP has emerged victorious in four. The Congress was leading in 9 wards, Independents on three while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) was leading in one, as per the official trends. The AAP exuded confidence that it would emerge victorious by winning more than 180 of the total 250 seats in the MCD polls, even though initial trends put the BJP in the lead.
50% voter turnout in MCD polls

The election officials, citing data available till 5.30 p.m., said around 50 per turnout was recorded, adding the final figures would be known later. The turnout in the 2017 civic body elections was 54 per cent. The results would be announced on December 7. A total of 1,349 candidates are in fray for 250 wards of the MCD.
