Lebanon's Deputy PM declares country's bankruptcy
Lebanon's Deputy Prime Minister Saade Chami on Tuesday, has declared bankruptcy of the cash-strapped nation. He added that the negotiations to sign a preliminary deal between Lebanon and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a package to exit a deep financial crisis in the country are currently underway.

"Wheat warehouses were destroyed in the Beirut port blasts in 2020, and the war in Ukraine further impacted our access to this commodity," Aoun was quoted as saying by Xinhua news agency. Aoun's remarks came on Monday during his meeting in Italy with David Beasley, the executive director of the World Food Programme, who said the WFP will continue supporting Lebanon despite the increasingly difficult global situation.
Opportunity exists for Lebanese-Israeli maritime border demarcation: US mediator
"There is an opportunity today... We can reach an agreement, but we will not conclude it ourselves, as Lebanon and Israel must decide to do so," Hochstein said on Tuesday in an interview with Lebanese MTV local TV channel. US to help Lebanon get electricity from Jordan
The plan would provide Egyptian natural gas to Jordan for generation into additional electricity that can be transmitted to Lebanon via Syria, as well as facilitate the transfer of natural gas to Lebanon, Xinhua news agency quoted the statement as saying on THursday. US Ambassador to Beirut Dorothy Shea informed Lebanese President Michel Aoun of this decision in a phone call, said the statement.

Najib Mikati named Lebanon's new PM
Mikati gave a speech following his appointment on Monday, calling upon all political parties to cooperate with him on finding the right solutions to the country's crises, reports Xinhua news agency. "The vote of confidence by MPs is necessary for my appointment but I am keen to gain the confidence of the Lebanese population, every man and woman, and the youths," Mikati said at Baabda Palace.
Hezbollah accuses US of inciting divisions in Lebanon
"The US statements about supporting the Lebanese army to face Hezbollah aim at stirring sedition among the Lebanese," Nasrallah said in a televised speech on Friday. The Hezbollah leader added that his party has always been in favour of reinforcing the Lebanese army which guarantees Lebanon's security, integrity and unity against any Israeli aggression.
Lebanon wants talks with Syria over maritime borders
"Now is the right time for negotiations to demarcate maritime borders between Lebanon and Syria," Xinhua news agency quoted Wehbe as saying on Sunday. Wehbe's comments came after the Syrian government signed last month with a Russian company a contract for oil exploration in the Mediterranean while grabbing a Lebanese area of 750 square km from Block No. 1.
Lebanese PM urges citizens to stop protests against lockdown
Several demonstrations were witnessed all over the country in the past few days, namely in Tripoli, Lebanon's largest northern city, in protest against the total lockdown. Tuesday's protests in Tripoli led to the injury of 76 people and the arrest of five people.
Syrian Air conducts 1st Aleppo-Beirut flight since 2011
In a report, Lebanon's MTV local TV channel said that the plane from the Aleppo International Airport landed at 2 a.m. in Beirut on Friday, reports Xinhua news agency. The report added that it was an Airbus 320 and was carrying 26 passengers.
