Chip-maker Intel has announced to acquire Granulate Cloud Solutions Ltd, an Israel-based developer of real-time continuous optimisation software, reportedly for up to $650 million. The acquisition will help cloud and data centre customers maximise compute workload performance and reduce infrastructure and cloud costs, Intel said in a statement late on Thursday. "Granulate's cutting-edge autonomous optimisation software can be applied to production workloads without requiring the customer to make changes to its code, driving optimised hardware and software.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, a deal could be unveiled as soon as this week, "assuming the talks don't fall apart". Tower Semiconductor develops chips for customers that don't have their own factories, at multiple factories in Israel, Italy and the US.

The initial phase of the project in New Albany near Columbus, Ohio, is expected to create 3,000 Intel jobs and 7,000 construction jobs over the course of the build, and to support tens of thousands of additional local long-term jobs across a broad ecosystem of suppliers and partners.
