He signed 17 executive orders covering also immigration and the fight against Covid-19 on Wednesday afternoon after he was sworn-in as president and Kamala Harris as Vice President. Biden said that he is fulfilling "a commitment I made that we're going to rejoin the Paris Climate Accord as of today".

A short while after Vice President Kamala Devi Harris was sworn-in, Biden was administered the oath of office by Chief Justice John Roberts.

Harris is wearing Christopher John Rogers and Sergio Hudson, according to chatter filtering from her aides. Rogers, a New York City resident, is a young Black designer, from Baton Rouge. Sergio is Black designer from South Carolina. Both Rogers and Hudson have dressed former First Lady Michelle Obama and Beyonce.

Trump has left Biden a note, the BBC reported, citing a White House spokesman. The contents were not known yet. Outgoing presidents usually write a letter with their best wishes and advice for their successor in the Oval Office. Till the last, it was not known if Trump, who had made much of the note left for him by Barack Obama, would follow suit.

Till four years ago, the superpower US took pride in its democracy and despite assaults like 9/11, it did not feel as threatened. But today, Biden and his team, who are to assume office later on Wednesday, will be taking oath under unprecedented security in the capital city that looks like a fortress.

Even as President-elect Biden has already indicated that he plans to reverse the Trump administration's immigration policies on day one of his assuming office, whether it will include any reprieve for Indians is not clear yet.
