The 33-year old Kohli, who departed for 35 in the first innings, could only score 18 runs in the second innings, getting out to youngster Marco Jansen. He went after a wide delivery from Jansen in the very first ball after Lunch on Day 4 of the ongoing Test. The delivery was bowled well outside the off-stump but Kohli, who pressed forward, was not able to curb his instinct and produced a thick edge, which was safely pouched by wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock.

After Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen took figures of 4/42 and 4/55 respectively to bowl out India for 174 in the second innings, the hosts now need 283 runs to win on a pitch which has shown high variable bounce for the pacers. Chasing 305, Shami, the hero of the first innings with 5/44, made the early breakthrough as he set-up Markram with two away-swinging deliveries and finally completed the set-up.

India have now set a target of 305 for South Africa with 51 overs left in the day. The pitch is still quick and high levels of variable bounce looming as a large factor. After bowling out South Africa for 197 in their first innings, India -- who scored 327 in their first innings -- lost the wicket of Mayank Agarwal (4) in the sixth over of their second innings. However, KL Rahul (5 not out) and nightwatchman Shardul Thakur (4 not out) denied Proteas any other wicket at the end of play on Day 3.

South Africa, who were struggling at 109/5 in their first innings at tea, added 88 more runs in the third session and lost the rest of the five wickets. Mohammed Shami was the most successful bowler for India with 5/44 while Jasprit Bumrah 2/16, Shardul Thakur 2/51, and Md Siraj 1/45 were other wicket-takers.

The 24-year old Pant broke the joint-record held by former India captain MS Dhoni and Wriddhiman Saha by affecting his 100th dismissal in his 26th Test which came at the SuperSport Park. The young wicketkeeper took 26 matches to reach the feat while Dhoni and Saha had achieved the same in 36 Tests. He achieved the milestone when he caught Temba Bavuma off Mohammed Shami's bowling.
