Pujara has been named in Saurashtra's squad, which will be led by Jaydev Unadkat and Rahane is a part of Mumbai's squad to be led by Prithvi Shaw. The senior pros have been under scrutiny because of the lack of big scores of late. Rahane last scored a century in December 2020, against Australia in Melbourne.

Gavaskar told Star Sports, "Why would they not be getting along? They are playing for India. All these talks about two players not gelling are always speculation."

Shaik Rasheed (50 off 84) and Nishant Sindhu smashed fifties while Raj Bawa (35 off 54) also played a vital knock and helped India chase the small but tricky target in 47.4 overs. "It's a proud moment for India. It was good batting and a good comeback by England. But we kept cool minds and focused," said Dhull in the post-match presentation.
