Equity indices close sharply high; Sensex up over 1,200 pts

Equity indices up in early trade; Sensex rises 250 pts

NSE fraud: CBI gets 7 days custody of Chitra Ramkrishna
A Special CBI Court on Monday sent Chitra Ramkrishna, the ex MD and CEO of the National Stock Exchange (NSE), arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), to seven days custody. Ramkrishna was placed under arrest by the federal probe agency on Sunday night. She was produced before the Delhi's Rouse Avenue Court. The CBI told the court that it wanted her custodial remand. The court after hearing their argument remanded her to seven days CBI custody.
Equity indices fall further; Sensex slips over 1,700 pts
India's key indices -- S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 -- fell further in the afternoon trade amid skyrocketing crude oil prices. The Ukraine crisis pushed Brent crude oil price to $130 a barrel on Monday, which in turn has accelerated FIIs' selling in the Indian equity market.
NSE ex-CEO Chitra Ramkrishna arrested by CBI
Arrested from her Delhi residence, Ramkrishna will be produced before the Rouse Avenue Court on Monday, and the agency will seek her custody for questioning. Earlier, ex-Group Operating Officer Anand Subramanian was arrested on the night of February 24 after several rounds of questioning. He was later sent to CBI custody till March 6. The CBI is trying to corroborate the evidences collected by them with the questioning of Subramanian.
Equity settles low, Nifty auto top loser on subdued retail sales
India's key indices -- S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 - fell sharply during the session and settled lower on Friday. Sensex settled 769 points, or 1.4 per cent, down at 54,334, whereas Nifty dipped 253 points, or 1.5 per cent, down at 16,245. On the sectoral front, Nifty auto was the top drag, declining 3.6 per cent, NSE data showed.

"The escalation of war drowned the global market, alarming the Indian market to start with substantial weakness. The negative effect was more on large-caps in-line with weak Q3 GDP data and downgrade of FY22 growth to 8.9 per cent from 9.2 per cent, by National Statistical Office (NSO)," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
Metal stocks surge on Russia-Ukraine war, Nifty metal up 5%
Shares in the metal space have witnessed sharp gains on Monday as tensions between Russia and Ukraine are expected to turn India's metal sector attractive. The Nifty metal index rose 5 per cent on Monday. "Metal stocks rallied on hopes that curtailing Russian exports would help Indian steelmakers to capture the export market share," said Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Financial Services.
Equities recover from losses to settle in green; Nifty metal top mover
After recovering during the afternoon session, India's key indices -- S&P BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty50 -- on Monday managed to extend its gains to settle in the green. The indices opened sharply lower on Monday to later recover its entire losses to trade in the green during the closing hours, riding on the reports that Russia and Ukraine are likely to hold peace talks.
Indian equities open negative; Sensex, Nifty indices down 1.5% each
At 9.55 a.m., Sensex was 1.5% or 817 points down at 55,041 points, whereas Nifty 1.4% or 233 points was down at 16,425 points. "Asian markets are trading mixed in the early Monday trade with Nikkei and HangSeng trading in negative territory while Taiwan and Korean markets trading in positive territory. WTI Crude rose more than 5% on the Russia-Ukraine crisis as Western nations imposed fresh sanctions on Moscow," said Mohit Nigam.
