The Wall Street Journal reported that IBM is exploring a potential sale of its Watson Health business, as CEO Arvind Krishna "moves to streamline the company and become more competitive in cloud computing".
IBM stock down after weak Q4 growth in Cloud and AI revenue
The Q4 (December 2020 quarter) sales totalled $20.4 billion, down 6 per cent (on-year) and slightly below the $20.63 billion consensus. Cloud and Cognitive Software sales dropped 5 per cent to $6.8 billion, below the $7.18 billion estimates. Last quarter, this segment was up 7 per cent.
India second highest contributor for IBM patents in 2020
The scientists and researchers received 9,130 US patents in 2020, the most of any company, marking 28 consecutive years of IBM patent leadership. IBM led the industry in the number of Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud, quantum computing and security-related patents granted.
IBM acquires cloud managed services provider Nordcloud
Helsinki-based Nordcloud is triple certified in Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure. The move will further advance IBM's cloud migration and transformation capabilities, an important aspect of its hybrid cloud platform growth strategy, the company said in a statement.
IBM spin off will have new leadership team in India
IBM's open hybrid cloud platform architecture, based on RedHat OpenShift, works with the entire range of clients' existing IT infrastructures, regardless of vendor.
