An abdominal issue sidelined the Czech player for six months following the 2021 US Open, and at the Roland-Garros last year she sustained an ankle injury in the third round against Amanda Anisimova that saw her taken off the court in a wheelchair.

World No. 6 Rune has experienced remarkable progress since the beginning of 2022. The Dane commenced January last year ranked at No. 99 in the world but has swiftly ascended through the rankings.

Ruud was repeatedly placed under pressure by Jarry in their fourth-round clash before battling to a 7-6(3), 7-5, 7-5 victory. Ruud saved 14 of 17 break points across three tightly-contested sets to reach his third major quarterfinal. The 24-year-old Norwegian prevailed in a first-set tie-break, rallied from 1-4 to claim the second set and then 2-4.
