Nadal allowed his French opponent, who he beat for the 17th time in a row, to win only nine points in the opening set while winning seven games in a row. "I think I played a great first set. [It was] one of the best of the clay-court season in my opinion. No mistakes, high intensity, winners, played long," Nadal told media after the match.
Berrettini enters third round of French Open

The 25-year-old Italian, who recorded his 20th win this year and entered the third round at Roland Garros for the third time, won 82 per cent of his points on first serve and also won 81 per cent of his net points. Berrettini will face Korean Kwoon Soon-Woo who beat Italy's Andreas Seppi 6-4, 7-5, 7-5. The Korean won 75 per cent of his first service points and converted four break points.
French Open: Daniil Medvedev beats Paul to enter third round

The Russian, who had registered his first career win at Roland Garros in the first round earlier, beat Paul in a game that saw him bounce back from one set down. The 25-year-old is eyeing the world No. 1 spot in the tournament, had arrived in Paris with a 0-4 record here. But he has been impressive through this campaign, losing just one set in the first two matches. He will play American Reilly Opelka for a place in the fourth round.

Nadal fired seven aces and won 81 per cent of his first-serve points to book a second-round clash against 34-year-old French veteran Richard Gasquet, ranked 53rd in the world. Gasquet defeated country-mate Hugo Gaston, a wildcard, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. With the win against Popyrin, Nadal now has a win-loss record of 101-2 at the Roland Garros.

She was fined $15,000 for skipping media interaction after her first-round win and was also warned of suspension from future Grand Slam events. Serena said she feels for Naomi and wanted to hug her but added that such moments has made her stronger.

Tamara took three hours and 20 minutes to get the better of Bianca in the first women's match to extend past 6-6 in the deciding set at the Roland Garros. No.4 seed 2020 runner-up, Sofia Kenin of the USA, avoided becoming the second top-10 seed to fall when she overcame 2017 French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Staring down 30-40 at 6-5 in the second set, Kvitova finished off a seven-shot rally with a crosscourt backhand winner to stay in it and hardly looked back to seal the win in two-hour, 16 minutes. She forced a final set by winning the last three points of the tiebreak and surrendered just three points on serve in the decider.

World No. 68 Andujar took full advantage of Thiem's lapses in concentration on way to upsetting the 2018 and 2019 finalist in over four hours and 28 minutes on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Andujar, who beat Roger Federer at the Gonet Geneva Open two weeks ago, now has a 6-23 career record against top 10 opponents.

In other first-round matches, No.29 Italian Fabio Fognini got the better of France's 122nd ranked Gregorie Barrere 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 while 11th ranked Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut defeated compatriot Mario Martinez 6-4, 6-4, 6-2.
