Science and Technology Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh met visiting French Minister Chrysoula Zacharopoulou with her high-level delegation in this regard in New Delhi and discussed Indo-French collaboration in the nuclear energy sector. The two countries also discussed ways to speed up the Jaitapur nuclear power plant in Maharashtra, part of an umbrella nuclear deal signed between India and France in September 2008.
Highly infectious new Omicron sub variant BF.7 detected in India

According to some reports, the first case of BF.7 has been detected by the Gujarat Biotechnology Research centre. This new Omicron variant is also considered to be highly infectious and has a greater transmissibility. Omicron sub-variants -- BA.5.1.7 and BF.7 -- after emerging from a region of Mongolia in China are now making their way to other parts and posing fresh threats.

The Prime Minister's Office in a statement said the two leaders also reviewed the ongoing bilateral initiatives including defence cooperation projects and cooperation in civil nuclear energy. They also discussed important geopolitical challenges including those related to global food security. Modi and Macron also expressed satisfaction at the depth and strength that the India-France Strategic Partnership has acquired in recent years, the statement said, adding both have agreed to continue working closely together to expand the relationship to new areas of cooperation.
Delhi's Covid positivity rate rises to 2.7% with 137 new cases

Delhi has reported 2.70 per cent Covid positivity rate on Monday which is highest in last two months. It had recorded 2.87 per cent on February 5. In the last 24 hours, a total of 137 fresh Covid cases were been reported in the city, taking the total case count to 18,66,380. However, no Covid related deaths have been recorded in the same period and the toll remains at 26,157.

PM Modi’s approval rating currently stands at 77 percent. Disapproval rating is 17 percent with 6 percent having no opinion. He is followed by Mexico’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the second position. Obrador has an approval rating of 63 percent and disapproval rating of 29 percent. Italy’s Draghi comes at third position with 54 percent approval ratings. Germany’s new chancellor Olaf Scholz comes at fourth with 45 percent approval ratings.
Omicron sub-variant BA.2 gradually increasing in India: Centre

Addressing a Health Ministry press briefing, Singh said that Omicron sub-variant BA.2 is more prevalent in comparison to the BA.1 variant in India now, adding that the BA.3 sub-variant has not been detected in India yet. "Earlier, the BA.1 variant was dominant among the samples collected from the travellers. Now in community settings, we have found that the BA.2 sub-variant is gradually increasing," he said.
Omicron infected have significant immune response, can neutralise Omicron, Delta: ICMR

The study analysed the IgG and neutralising antibodies (NAbs) against B.1, Alpha, Beta, Delta, and Omicron variants with the sera of individuals infected with the Omicron variant (B.1.1529 and BA.1). It suggests that the immune response induced by the Omicron could effectively neutralise the Delta variant, making re-infection with Delta variant less likely and displacing this varaint as the dominant strain.
