President Murmu appoints 13 new Governors; accepts resignations of Maharashtra, Ladakh Governor

The official communication reads: "Lt. General Kaiwalya Trivikram Parnaik, PVSM, UYSM, YSM (Retired) as Governor of Arunachal Pradesh; Lakshman Prasad Acharya as Governor of Sikkim; C.P. Radhakrishnan as Governor of Jharkhand; Shiv Pratap Shukla as Governor of Himachal Pradesh; and S. Abdul Nazeer as Governor of Andhra Pradesha; Gulab Chand Kataria as Governor of Assam"
President Murmu likely to visit Madurai Meenakshi temple on Feb 18

However, a formal announcement of the President's visit to the temple will be made only two days prior to her arrival, sources in the temple told IANS.Sources said that security arrangements have already been made in the temple. The President is likely to reach the temple at 12 p.m. on February 18 and will attend the 'puja' there. She will leave for Coimbatore.
Centre to convene all party meet today on eve of Budget session

It will begin with President Droupadi Murmu's address to both Houses of Parliament in the Central Hall, after which the economic survey for 2022-23 will be laid in Parliament. On Wednesday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for 2023-24. The first part of the session will be held from Tuesday till February 13.
 President Murmu attends opening of 'Amrit Udyan' gardens for public

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday attended the opening of the gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan for the general public. 'Amrit Udyan' will remain open for visitors from January 31 to March 26 (except on Mondays which are maintenance days and on March 8 on account of Holi) between 10.00 a.m. to 1600 a.m.
Parliament Budget Session to begin on Jan 31, end April 6

In a series of tweets, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi said: Budget Session, 2023 of Parliament will commence from 31 January and continue till 6 April with 27 sittings spread over 66 days with usual recess.
President Murmu calls for keeping culture, traditions alive

Move from women empowerment to women-led development: President Murmu

It must happen in a much bigger way," she said in her address to the probationers of the 74th batch of the Indian Police Service at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy, Hyderabad.
President Droupadi Murmu opens International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetraa

The President offered flowers on the religious scripture Gita as she performed the yagna near Lord Shri Krishna's chariot idol located at Purushottampura Bagh. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya and Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar were also present on the occasion. President Murmu inaugurated the Gita Shilp Udyan, built in Purushottam Bagh, dedicated to the ongoing celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Comments on President: Ruckus in Bengal Assembly as Speaker rejects adjournment motion

The speaker observed that since the case is sub-judice, there is no scope for discussion on the floor of the Assembly. However, the leader of the opposition Suvendu Adhikari argued that the main contention of the adjournment motion was on why a minister should continue in the chair even after making such derogatory comments about the constitutional head of the country. 
Retd IAS officer Arun Goel appointed Election Commissioner

Arun Goel will join Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey in the apex poll body. The third post of Election Commissioner in the country's top poll body has been vacant for nearly six months. After Chief EC Sushil Chandra had retired in May this year giving charge to Rajiv Kumar, the poll panel has been a two-member body only. However, after Goel assumes the charge, the top poll body will have three members - one Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners.
