Magnificent Mughal Garden to be known as 'Amrit Udyan'

Navika Gupta, deputy press secretary to President Droupadi Murmu, said: "On the occasion of the celebrations of 75 years of Independence as 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', the President of India is pleased to give a common name to the Rashtrapati Bhavan gardens as 'Amrit Udyan'." Murmu will grace the opening of the Gardens of Rashtrapati Bhavan -- Udyan Utsav 2023 -- on January 29.
President Murmu hails India's G20 presidency

Droupadi Murmu made the remark after the newly-appointed Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Mustafizur Rahman presented his credentials to the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday. Justice DY Chandrachud sworn-in as 50th Chief Justice of India

Justice Chandrachud took the oath at a ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, which was attended by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, former Chief Justice of India U.U. Lalit, Supreme Court judges' and other dignitaries. On October 11, former Chief Justice of India U.U. Lalit named Justice D.Y. Chandrachud, the senior most judge in the Supreme Court, as his successor.

Justice Chandrachud will be sworn in as India's 50th CJI on November 9. Law Minister Kiren Rijiju, in a tweet, said: "In exercise of the power conferred by the Constitution of India, President appoints Dr. Justice DY Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court as the Chief Justice of India with effect from 9th November, 22".
President Murmu to attend Queen Elizabeth's funeral

President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences at the demise of Queen Elizabeth II. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited the British High Commission in New Delhi on September 12 to convey India's condolences. India also observed a day of national mourning on Sunday (September 11).
Justice U.U. Lalit sworn-in as 49th Chief Justice of India

Earlier this month, the Central government had issued a notification appointing Justice Lalit to the top post, following a recommendation made by former CJI Ramana, who demitted office on August 26. On August 13, 2014, Justice Lalit was elevated to the apex court directly from the Bar. He will however, have a short tenure of as the Chief Justice as he will retire on November 8.
President Murmu highlights India's success story in maiden address to nation

"When India won independence, there were many international leaders and experts who were sceptical about the success of democratic form of government in India. They had their reasons to be doubtful. In those days, democracy was limited to economically advanced nations. India, after so many years of exploitation at the hands of foreign rulers, was marked by poverty and illiteracy. But we Indians proved the skeptics wrong. Democracy not only grew roots in this soil, it was enriched too," the President said.

A full scale controversy erupted after BJP MPs demanded an apology from Gandhi on the alleged derogatory remarks made by Chowdhury, the Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha, on President Droupadi Murmu. When asked, Sonia Gandhi said that "he has already apologised" and called for an all-party meeting.
