Cautious optimism returning to India's economy: RBI

The June issue of RBI's monthly bulletin said: "The Indian economy continues to wrestle with the second wave of the pandemic, though cautious optimism is returning. By current assessment, the second wave's toll is mainly in terms of the hit to domestic demand."
Net direct tax collections for FY22 grows over 100% till mid-June

According to the Finance Ministry, tax collections for FY22 up to June 15 have registered a growth of over 100 per cent at Rs 1,85,871 crore, compared to Rs 92,762 crore over the corresponding period of the preceding year.
May retail sales fall 79% from pre-Covid levels in 2019

The decline comes on the back of the lockdowns across states amid the second wave of Covid-19. With sales down 34 per cent in May 2021, categories such as food and grocery fared better than categories like footwear (-86 per cent), beauty, wellness and personal care (-87 per cent) and sports goods (-80 per cent) as compared to pre-Covid sales levels (May 2019).
Vedanta enhances Covid relief measures for employees

New Covid wave in Asia to worsen global chip shortage: Report

The global semiconductor shortage will persist through 2021 and is expected to recover to normal levels by the second quarter of 2022, a Gartner report said last month. Across most categories, device shortages are expected to be pushed out untill the second quarter of 2022, while substrate capacity constraints could potentially extend to fourth quarter of 2022.
Covid dent: passenger vehicles sales down by over 61% from May'19 levels

However, base effect along with low interest rates and some pent-up demand showed an accelerated rise in domestic demand in May 2021 on a year-on-year basis. Accordingly, sales of passenger vehicles increased to 88,045 in May this year compared to 33,546 units sold during the same period of 2020. The May 2021 figures were lower by 61.2 per cent from 2,26,975 units sold during May 2019 levels.

Covid to push air traffic recovery to FY23 end
