Snapdragon announces four new chipsets

The Snapdragon 778G Plus is an overclocked Snapdragon 778G with support for Qualcomm FastConnect, while the Snapdragon 695 brings support for both sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G networks as well as 120Hz refresh rates for HD+ screens. The Snapdragon 480 Plus is a new entry-level 5G chipset that represents a small speed bump over the Snapdragon 480.

iQOO Z5x to come with a Dimensity 900 chipset

Dimensity 900 is a 5G capable chip built on a 6nm process with two Cortex-A78 power cores clocked at 2.4GHz and six Cortex-A55 units at 2 GHz for efficiency. The GPU side is covered by the Arm Mali-G68. Z5x will also house a side-mounted fingerprint scanner and a headphone jack.

The move is aimed at reducing the dependence for semiconductor chips on an increasingly assertive China. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be attending the first in-person Quad summit to be hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in Washington. The Nikkei report is based on a draft of the joint statement that is expected to be issued at the summit. The draft says that in order to create robust supply chains, the four countries will ascertain their semiconductor supply capacities and identify vulnerability.
Chip shortage could last into 2023

The shortages had caused shutdowns in Malaysia and would "significantly impact production and sales in the third quarter", Kallenius, who is also head of Mercedes-Benz, told the BBC at the International Mobility show in Munich. "Chip producers say this will bleed into 2022 from a structural point of view and then gradually get better," he added.
MediaTek launches Kompanio 900T chipset for tablets, notebooks

Global chip shortage affecting 'everybody but Apple': Report

A report from Wave7 Research indicates that the shortages are affecting makers of lower-cost Android handsets, with Samsung and OnePlus being particularly hard hit. However, the shortages do not appear to be affecting Apple iPhone, Mac, or iPad as significantly. Samsung and OnePlus are particularly hard hit since Qualcomm said earlier this year that demand for its chips was outstripping supply.
MediaTek emerges as preferred chipset partner in India in 2021: Report

According to market research firm techARC, out of the total 117 smartphone models launched in the first half (Jan-Jun), 54 smartphone models used a MediaTek SoC. However, Qualcomm led the 5G smartphone launches with 20 out of 35 models using its chipset. The report said that Qualcomm's Snapdragon 888 and MediaTek's Helio G35 tie for number 1 chipset with maximum number of smartphone models launched by OEMs.
