CAA is BJP's 'jumla', says Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee in Assam

He said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in West Bengal last week that the government would implement the CAA as soon as the Covid-19 pandemic ends but he remained silent during his 3-day visit in Assam on May 8-10. After inaugurating the Trinamool office at Jan Path (Jayanagar) in Guwahati, Banerjee addressed a big gathering of the party workers for the first time in Assam.
Coronavirus should be a priority, not CAA, says Nitish

Nitish Kumar, while reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement on the issue, said that the way cases of coronavirus are increasing in the country, he should concern himself on a prevention plan. "The way cases are increasing in the country, it is a biggest challenge for us. They should have to look after its prevention. We will think about any policies that would come before us," he said.

Though the CAA was passed in 2019, rules regarding its implementation are yet to be framed. Amit Shah is on a three day visit to West Bengal. He returned to the state exactly a year after the BJP lost the state elections. Shah also said that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government is trying to divide the Gorkhas, Rajbanshis and Adivasis in north Bengal with an attempt to change the demography of the region.

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sitaram Yechury, has called for a broad alliance of Left, secular and democratic forces to unseat the BJP. He said the 'Hindu Rashtra' ideology of the BJP is the biggest challenge faced by the country, and the saffron party is trying to replace the secular and democratic traditions of the country with this ideology.
