In a case of murder against six presenters, including Ibrahim, of Islamist programmes, organised by Jamaat-e-Islami and paid by Pakistan, on different private Bangladesh television channels, it was alleged that Ibrahim of the Zakir Naik-run Peace TV had threatened to kill Faruqi in 2012.

21 killed in Bangladesh boat capsize

A passenger, Ali Akhter Rizvi, told IANS that the boat left the Champaknagar ghat of Vijaynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria district at around 4.30 p.m. on Friday evening. It was heading to Anandabazar ghat of Sadar upazila. The collision took place in the Laisca Beel area after which the boat overturned and sank, Rizvi added.
'If Taliban forms a govt of the people, Bangladesh will accept it'

"No matter which new government is formed, if a Taliban government is formed, which has been done, our door will be open to them if it is a government of the people," Momen said on Monday. 5 Neo-JMB militants arrested in Bangladesh, IED-making materials seized

Five members of the Neo-JMB banned militant outfit were arrested in Bangladesh by a specialised unit of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), a top official said on Monday, adding that IED-making materials were also seized during multiple raids. Md Asaduzzaman, chief of the DMP's Counterterrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, told IANS that while three of the militants were arrested on July 8, the remaining two were held on Sunday.
52 killed, over 100 missing in massive Bangladesh food factory blaze

The blaze broke out at the Shezan Juice Factory in Rupganj, an industrial town 25 km east of the capital, on Thursday afternoon 5 p.m (local time) and was still burning nearly 25 hours later, Fire Service's Director Operation, Lt Col Siddique Mohammed Zulfiqar Rahman told IANS on Friday afternoon. President Abdul Hamid and Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragedy.

Responding to this, Hasina said: "Of course, there is a clear direction on secularism. In the Quran - 'La'kum Dinukum Waliyadin' means everybody has the right to follow their own belief and religion and s/he will follow his religion." Before the concluding remarks of the Prime Minister, Rashid criticised the existence of secularism in the constitution of Bangladesh by claiming there was no mention of secularism in the Quran.
'Khaleda has to seek presidential pardon to go abroad legally'

The minister said in the Parliament on Wednesday that Zia's family members had applied for her release to take her abroad for treatment. "But in their application, they did not mention any provision of the law, they accepted it. They took Begum Zia home from jail," he added. The Anti-Corruption commission filed another related case on July 3, 2008 related to corruption in the Zia Orphanage.
