Bloodstains found in Atiq's Chakia office

Marks of blood were also found on the staircase. A 'dupatta' with blood stains and bangles also lay strewn in one of the rooms. A portion of the office has already been demolished. Traces of blood found in the room are said to be fresh. Forensic teams have been called in to collect the blood samples and to ascertain how old they are.
Atiq Ahmed's killers had visited Lucknow before reaching Prayagraj

The three revealed this during interrogation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). However, they did not disclose the reason for their visit to Lucknow. After reaching the Prayagraj bus stand, they had roamed around and then on April 13, taken a room at a hotel near Khuldabad police station where they had kept watching television, collecting information about Atiq's movements in police custody, officials said.

A large number of people assembled at the Jama mosque near Patna Junction to offer "Alvida Ka Namaz" on the last day of Ramzan month. After the prayers, a section of them came out on the roads and shouted slogans of "Shaheed Atiq Ahmed Amar Rahe, Ashraf Ahmed Amar Rahe, and Asad Ahmed Amar Rahe". They have also shouted slogans against the Centre and the UP government.

At that time, Atiq used to be a Member of Parliament and was on the run in connection with the Raju Pal murder case. "Atiq was hiding at Ghalib Apartment. We got a tip-off and a team was formed to nab him. At around 4 p.m. on December 31, 2008, we laid a trap outside Ghalib Apartments. Atiq was about to flee in his Honda City car when he was nabbed," said a source in the police.
