The order of dismissal was passed against the petitioner, Gore Lal Verma, solely on the ground that despite being married to one Laxmi Devi, who is alive, the petitioner maintained an extra-marital relationship with another lady named Hemlata Verma and both are staying together as husband and wife. He also has three children from the live-in relationship.

"If this is the state of affairs of a medical college in a city like Meerut, then the healthcare system of the state, particularly in towns and villages can be likened to the famous Hindi saying - 'Ram Bharose'," the court observed on Monday, adding it was a case of "high degree carelessness".

Justice Virendra Kumar Srivastava, a sitting judge of the Allahabad High Court, passed away on Wednesday after being afflicted by Covid. Justice Srivastava was at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court.

Taking cognizance of the reported deaths of 135 teachers, Shiksha Mitras and investigators assigned panchayat election duty, Allahabad High Court, on Tuesday, issued the notices. The court further asked why action should not be taken against the state poll panel and its officials and why those responsible for Covid violations should not be prosecuted.

The court said that it is a violation of Article 21 of the Constitution. The banners, along with the names and identities of the criminals, also give information about their criminal history. The court said it believes that it is unnecessary to publicly display information about criminals outside the police stations and is in violation of Article 21.

A division bench comprising Justice Anjani Kumar Mishra and Justice Shekhar Kumar Yadav, while hearing a writ petition filed by Neeraj Kishor Mishra of Kasganj district, directed the state government to file its reply in four weeks and directed to list this case after six weeks.

The Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 was promulgated in November to prohibit religious conversions in the name of 'love jihad'. A bench comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Piyush Agrawal asked the state government to file a counter affidavit by January 4 and fixed the case for hearing on January 7, 2021.
