Zomato's Ambitious Goal: Achieving 100% Electric Vehicle Deliveries in the Next Decade

In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, Zomato, the online food delivery platform, declared its ambition to achieve 100% deliveries through electric vehicles (EVs) by 2033. This initiative is part of the company's broader sustainability goals for 2030. Zomato is committed to achieving net-zero emissions throughout the food ordering and delivery value chain. Additionally, the company outlined plans to ensure 100% plastic-neutral food delivery orders through voluntary recycling, aiming to deliver 100 million plastic-free food orders by 2025.

Ramesh Krishnamurthi, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Labour and Employment, acknowledged Zomato's commitment to sustainability, particularly its alignment with the government's push towards EV adoption. The goal is to eliminate emissions associated with food delivery by transitioning to electric vehicles within the next decade.

In parallel, Zomato has set out to enhance the earning and saving capacity of one million gig workers. The company plans to achieve this by focusing on upskilling initiatives, partnerships, and benefit programs. Rakesh Ranjan, CEO of Food Delivery at Zomato, emphasized how gig work has democratized access to livelihoods, reducing entry barriers and improving income prospects for a significant number of people in India.

As part of its sustainability objectives, Zomato aims to develop food ordering and delivery solutions catering to the next billion customers, focusing on affordability, accessibility, assortment, and quality. The company also commits to supporting the growth of 300,000 micro, small, and medium-sized restaurant businesses and food entrepreneurs. Additionally, Zomato intends to bring health and safety knowledge and innovations to its restaurant partners, underlining its holistic approach towards fostering sustainability and growth in the food industry.
