Zomato Raises Platform Fee to Rs 5: What it Means for Customers

Initially introduced at Rs 2 per order in August of the previous year, the platform fee was subsequently raised to Rs 3. Following a surge in food orders during New Year's Eve, Zomato made another adjustment, elevating the mandatory platform fee to Rs 4 per order across its key markets in January.

Zomato, the popular online food delivery platform, has recently announced a significant increase in its platform fee, raising it by 25% to Rs 5 per order. This adjustment comes as part of the company's ongoing efforts to bolster its margins and achieve profitability.

Initially introduced at Rs 2 per order in August of the previous year, the platform fee was subsequently raised to Rs 3. Following a surge in food orders during New Year's Eve, Zomato made another adjustment, elevating the mandatory platform fee to Rs 4 per order across its key markets in January.

Notably, this new platform fee applies to all customers, including those enrolled in Zomato Gold membership.

In other developments, Zomato has temporarily suspended its inter-city food delivery service, Intercity Legends. A message displayed on the 'Legends' tab within the Zomato app assures users that enhancements are underway and encourages them to stay tuned for updates on the service's return.

Adding to its recent challenges, Zomato received a goods and services tax (GST) demand along with a penalty order totaling Rs 11.81 crore. The demand comprises Rs 5.9 crore in GST for the period spanning July 2017 to March 2021, coupled with an equal amount in penalties.
