SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the low-cost internet service is live on more than 1,000 aircraft. The service delivers high-speed internet to every passenger right upon boarding.
Musk posted from a social media account on X while in flight, posting the experience and saying that Starlink connectivity on planes is comparable to a high-speed fiber connection on the ground.
Recently, Starlink added a new country, connecting Sierra Leone to its network—the 100th country and the 10th in Africa. Earlier this year, it was introduced into Indonesia and Fiji. Musk said no long-term contract is required when subscribing to its high-speed internet service.
Moreover, Starlink has received the initial approval from Sri Lanka for providing internet services in the country. Whereas, in India, the service is still awaiting the nod by the government. Now, as far as the review process is concerned in India, there are foreign investment aspects and technical requirements checks according to the local licensing conditions. When the approval comes, it shall get a Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite services license which is necessary to run satellite communications in the country.
