Report Indicates Over 45% of Serious Gamers in India Earning Above 6 Lakhs Annually

In 2023, the gaming landscape in India has witnessed substantial growth in earnings compared to the previous year. A recent report unveiled that 45% of dedicated gamers now boast annual earnings ranging between six to twelve lakh, a significant surge indicating the burgeoning potential within the gaming domain. HP, a key player in the PC and printer realm, highlighted the burgeoning e-sports sector's impact on the Indian gaming community, heralding diverse career avenues and amplified financial prospects.

The comprehensive report, encompassing insights from 3,000 gamers across 15 cities in India, shed light on the evolving dynamics of gaming. Beyond mere entertainment, gamers are increasingly drawn towards gaming as a means of earning income and gaining recognition. Sponsorships and participation in esports tournaments emerged prominently as lucrative revenue streams, underscoring the rising significance of the gaming community.

The report highlighted aspirations among gamers to explore future career paths such as becoming influencers or venturing into esports management, illustrating the expanding horizons within gaming. Notably, the surge in serious gamers extends beyond metropolitan cities, reflecting a substantial rise in non-metro regions.

Demographically, gaming transcends specific age groups, with 75% of Gen Z and 67% of Millennials actively engaged as serious gamers. Noteworthy is the inclusive nature of gaming, with 58% of women respondents identified as serious gamers. Additionally, one in three gamers actively participates in gaming pursuits for either monetary gains or acknowledgment.

Despite this surge, the report pointed out a lack of awareness regarding gaming courses in India, with a majority relying on YouTube tutorials and peer assistance to enhance their gaming skills. Approximately 57% of respondents expressed the desire for gameplay training to hone their gaming abilities.

In a positive shift, the report highlighted a change in parental attitudes toward gaming, with 42% now endorsing gaming as a hobby. Over 40% of parents acknowledged a shift in perception, attributing it to the industry's notable growth in recent years.
