Microsoft has unveiled a revamped version of its Edge browser on iOS and Android, now named "Microsoft Edge: AI Browser." Users have recently observed this rebranding initiative, as reported by Neowin.

In the updated App Store listing, Microsoft emphasizes the AI capabilities, stating, "Microsoft Edge, your AI-powered browser, with Copilot built in to enhance your browsing experience. Empowered by GPT-4, Copilot enables you to ask questions, refine searches, receive comprehensive summaries, and create images with DALL-E 3. Microsoft Edge is a smarter way to browse, find, create, and shop on the go." However, the new name has sparked mixed reactions from users.

While some argue that Microsoft may not have the right to label Edge as an "AI browser," others support the new nomenclature, citing the additional features accessible via the Copilot button on the toolbar.

Expressing disappointment, a user on X commented, "Microsoft has apparently decided to name Edge on Android 'Microsoft Edge: AI Browser.' I'm so deeply disappointed at every decision that Microsoft leadership makes around Edge. It's like every time they're presented with two options, they intentionally choose the worse option."

In a parallel development, Microsoft has taken a security measure by disabling its ms-app installer URI scheme (App Installer). This decision comes in response to the observed exploitation of this scheme by threat actors to distribute malware. Microsoft Threat Intelligence, in a blog post, revealed that the company has been monitoring such activities since mid-November 2023.
