Retail giant Walmart has officially confirmed that it is no longer advertising on X, the platform owned by Elon Musk, as reported by CNN. According to a Walmart spokesperson, the decision is based on the company's choice to utilize other platforms that better serve their advertising needs.
Walmart's departure from X adds to a growing list of companies that have ceased advertising on the platform since Elon Musk endorsed an antisemitic post last month. Notable names like Apple, Disney, IBM, Comcast, and Warner Bros. Discovery are among those that have withdrawn their advertisements.
Joe Benarroch, the head of Operations at X, acknowledged that brands advertising on the platform can reach a massive user base. Despite Walmart's decision, he highlighted that the retail giant still maintains a strong presence on X, interacting with its community of over one million people in various ways. Benarroch clarified that Walmart's withdrawal from X advertising is not directly tied to Musk's actions and emphasized that Walmart has not advertised on X since October.
In response to recent developments, Musk apologized for what he deemed his "dumbest" social media post during the New York Times DealBook Summit. However, he expressed frustration at sponsors who abandoned X, stating that he does not want them to advertise and dismissing any attempt to use advertising as a form of blackmail.
