India is a global leader with breakthrough innovations, says Bill Gates

Gates is being counted as the Guest of Honour at the Consulate General of India, Seattle, after making his remarks at length on the technology, agriculture, and healthcare advancements India has made—while mentioning the great impact on saving and improvement in lives.

Philanthropist and co-founder of Microsoft Bill Gates presided over the opening ceremony of the first India Day celebration in the Greater Seattle area, calling India a "global leader" in path-breaking innovations across multiple fields.

Gates is being counted as the Guest of Honour at the Consulate General of India, Seattle, after making his remarks at length on the technology, agriculture, and healthcare advancements India has made—while mentioning the great impact on saving and improvement in lives.

For example, Gates posted images of the ceremony, in which he is draped in a tricolour scarf, and stated that it was "an honour" to be part of the celebrations. He took to Instagram to share, "India is a global leader with breakthrough innovations in areas like technology, agriculture, and healthcare that are saving and improving lives. It has truly been an honor to work with the Indian government, philanthropists, the private sector, non-profits and the Indian American community. Happy Independence Day to all Indians!"

 A cultural bonanza reflecting the rich kaleidoscope of India marked the celebrations in the land of Seattle in the first-ever India Day Parade celebration. The floats depicting various states and regions of India, along with the performances on the theme 'Unity in Diversity,' were a musical treat for everyone present.

And, these floats were largely thought of, and conceptualized with the help of, various representatives of the Indian-American community, and they depicted the most prominent features of India's rich cultural tapestry.

Consulate General of India in Seattle, too, thanked Gates for officially opening the celebration. "Thank you, Mr. Bill Gates, for flagging off the first India Day celebrations in the Greater Seattle area," the Consulate posted on X.

The Consulate also appreciated the presence of Congresswomen Suzan K. DelBene and Kim Schrier, Congressman Adam Smith, Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck, and Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs. Mayors of the surrounding cities, including but not limited to Bellevue, Tacoma, Kent, Auburn, Renton, SeaTac, Snoqualmie, and Mercer Island, showed up in force to celebrate and share their enthusiasm for the Indian community.
