Numerous Google Pixel users are encountering issues with their devices following the installation of the January 2024 Google Play system update, leading to a loss of access to internal storage. Problems reported include app crashes, the Files app displaying no files, and failure to save screenshots. Users claim this recurrence mirrors the internal storage access problem experienced in October 2023.
A Google Pixel owner shared on Reddit, "The internal storage access issue from October 2023 is happening again after applying the Jan 2024 Google Play system update. The symptoms are all the same - internal storage not getting mounted, camera crashes, Files app shows no files, screenshots not getting saved, internal storage shows up empty in ADB Shell, etc."
Another user expressed, "Yesterday morning, my Pixel 7 stopped reading its internal storage, all functionalities related to active and passive use of storage have stopped or not working properly and crashing."
Issues reported include the inability to download photos or videos on WhatsApp, camera malfunction, and inaccessibility of various files such as music, images, videos, and alarms. Google acknowledged the problem, stating to 9to5Google, "we are aware of this issue and are looking into it."
The problem extends to multiple Google Pixel models, including 5, 6, 7, 8, and the Fold series. However, not all Pixel users have encountered problems after installing the January 2024 play update, which has not been widely distributed.
In the midst of these challenges, Google is unveiling new generative AI features in the Chrome browser. The latest Chrome release includes experimental generative AI features aimed at enhancing browsing efficiency, such as smart tab organization, personalized theme creation using AI, and assistance in drafting content on the web.
