In a remarkable feat, Yuzvendra Chahal, the leg-spinner from India and Rajasthan Royals, etched his name in history books by becoming the first bowler ever to claim 200 wickets in the Indian Premier League.
This milestone moment unfolded during the intense clash between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians at the electrifying Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Chahal showcased his mastery of leg-spin as he artfully deceived Afghan batsman Mohammad Nabi with a well-flighted delivery, enticing him into a mistimed shot that resulted in an easy catch for Chahal, sealing his landmark achievement.
Debuting in the IPL back in 2013, Chahal has plied his trade for various franchises, including Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Prior to reaching the coveted 200-wicket milestone, Chahal had been steadily climbing the ladder of IPL bowling legends, surpassing the likes of Dwayne Bravo from Chennai Super Kings, who held the record with 183 wickets in 161 matches since IPL 2023.
Following Chahal's stellar performance, the list of top wicket-takers in IPL history is adorned with illustrious names. Piyush Chawla, another Indian and Mumbai Indians' leg-spinner, stands at the third spot with 181 scalps, closely trailed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar of Sunrisers Hyderabad, boasting 174 dismissals in 167 appearances.
Amit Mishra, the former Indian spinner, occupies the fifth position with 173 wickets from 161 matches.
Among the active contenders in the race for the most successful bowlers, Kolkata Knight Riders' Sunil Narine shares the sixth spot with Ravichandran Ashwin, both claiming 172 wickets in their IPL careers spanning 169 matches.
Further down the rankings, the lethal pace of Jasprit Bumrah, representing India and Mumbai Indians, secures the ninth position with 158 wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja, with 156 dismissals in 233 matches, clinches the tenth spot.
Chahal's outstanding form this season cements his place among the top wicket-takers, reaffirming his prowess on the IPL stage.
