Under scrutiny for his lackluster performance in the current IPL 2025 season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant reacted against the misinformation being spread on social media regarding his future with the team.
Writing on social media, Pant condemned a user who was spreading lies and asked netizens to be more responsible.
Purchased for a whopping ₹27 crore in the high-profile IPL 2025 mega auction, Pant's comeback to the competition has been anything but smooth. The wicketkeeper-batter has scored just 135 runs from 12 games, representing the toughest period of his IPL career.
His recent performances show a dismal record: 2, 2, DNB, 21, 63, 3, 0, 4, 8, and 7 in the last ten matches. His wicket-keeping has been criticized and questions have been raised about his form and his thinking.
Reacting to a tweet on X (previously Twitter) that speculated LSG will let him go before IPL 2026, Pant came back with a retort in quick time:
I get fake news creates more momentum for content, but let's not make everything around it. A bit of sense and real news will do more good than creating fake news with an agenda. Thanks, have a good day. Let's be sensible and responsible regarding what we post on social media.
This year is the second time in Pant's career that he has not reached the 200-mark in an IPL season, with the previous instance being in his debut year of 2016 for Delhi Capitals (then Delhi Daredevils). His poor form has contributed towards LSG falling short in the playoffs for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old, who wasn't retained by Delhi Capitals after IPL 2024, created a huge buzz in the auction as the costliest signing. Now, with only two league games to go, LSG will be hoping he can regain his form.
Team-mate and Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh showed faith in Pant's ability to bounce back.
We know that he's an amazing player, very talented and very skilled, so he will be back, but yeah, hopefully the last two games," Marsh explained in the post-match media conference after LSG's loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
"I believe the time to reflect would be most likely after the season, and for me, personally, I just try to look at how I can help us win the next two games for our franchise and for our team. As I said, the IPL is a tournament of a beast kind and the margins are very tight."
LSG are scheduled to play Gujarat Titans on Thursday, before their last match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home on May 27.
