Udita Duhan marked her historic 100th international appearance with a stellar performance, scoring twice to propel India towards securing a spot in the Paris Olympics after a resounding 5-1 victory over Italy in the FIH Olympic Qualifier on Tuesday.

Udita's goals in the 1st and 55th minutes were complemented by strikes from Deepika (41st), Salima Tete (45th), and Navneet Kaur (53rd). This triumph secured India's place in the semi-finals, where they will face Pool A leaders Germany, while the United States, who topped Pool B, will square off against Japan. The top three teams from the tournament will qualify for the Paris Olympics.

India, rebounding from their 0-1 loss to the USA in the opener, showcased dominance throughout the match. Udita's defensive prowess, coupled with the midfield control led by Neha Goyal and Salima, set the tone for India's commanding performance.

The hosts swiftly took the lead in the first minute as Udita converted a penalty corner with a precise slap shot. The relentless attacking play continued, with Sangita Kumari testing Italy's goalkeeper early on.

India maintained their high-press strategy, earning another penalty corner, but Udita's attempt was thwarted by the Italian defense. The Indian defenders, marshaled by captain Savita Punia, remained solid, denying Italy any clear goal-scoring opportunities.

Deepika extended India's lead in the second quarter with a successful penalty stroke, while Salima and Navneet further widened the gap in the third quarter. Udita sealed the victory with another expertly executed penalty corner.

Italy managed a consolation goal through Camila Machin's converted penalty corner right before the final hooter. Overall, India's cohesive performance showcased their determination to secure a coveted spot in the Paris Olympics.
