The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup champion Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, is finally on its way home after being stranded in Barbados for three days due to Hurricane Beryl.
The victorious squad, along with their support staff, several BCCI officials, the players’ families, and 22 Indian journalists, departed from Barbados at approximately 6 am on Wednesday (IST).
Rohit Sharma, Shivam Dube, and Mohammad Siraj shared an update on Instagram, posting a photo of themselves holding the T20 World Cup trophy with the caption, “Coming home.”
Upon their arrival in New Delhi, the team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at around 11 am. Following this meeting, they will head to Mumbai.
A source informed IANS that the BCCI has arranged an open-top bus ride in Mumbai, which will culminate in a celebration at the Wankhede Stadium. The bus ride, expected to begin around 4 pm, will take the team along Marine Drive.
Originally, the World Cup-winning team was scheduled to leave Barbados at 11 am local time (8:30 pm IST) on Monday. However, their departure was postponed due to Hurricane Beryl, which had escalated from a category 3 to a category 5 storm.
