The groups and fixtures for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 stage have been confirmed. Co-hosts West Indies and USA make it with six other teams through the battle in the group stage.
Group A saw India and first-timers USA qualify, while Australia and England found their way out of Group B. Group C had hosts West Indies—the two-time champions—with Afghanistan, while South Africa joined Bangladesh to progress from Group D.
The eight qualified teams get divided into two groups for the Super 8 rounds. Group A consists of India, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Group B consists of USA, England, West Indies, and South Africa. Both hosts come under Group B.
Four of these teams are previous T20 World Cup title holders: India, England, West Indies, and Australia. The action of the McCullum slog sweeps will unfold at four venues in the West Indies—the series encompassing Antigua and Barbuda with four games, Barbados with three games, Saint Lucia with three, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines with two.
The action will begin with the Super 8s on Wednesday with USA taking on USA at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, starting at 8 pm IST. India kick off their campaign against Afghanistan at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Thursday, also starting at 8 pm IST, which is expected to turn out to be an exciting game based on the kind of displays Afghanistan has been able to come up with in global tournaments of late.
Their next two Super 8 matches will be against Bangladesh at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on June 22 and against the former champions Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Saint Lucia on June 24.
The top two teams of every Super 8 group will face semifinals on June 27. The final is now going to be played at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on 29th June at 8 pm IST, and that is going to be one electrifying end to the extravaganza.
