With the prevailing win of Afghanistan over Bangladesh in the final Super Eight clash of the T20 World Cup Tuesday, the last four of this mega event is finally confirmed, including England, South Africa, India, and Afghanistan.
Both India and South Africa are unbeaten in the championship so far, having won their respective groups during the Super Eight round. Rohit Sharma's leadership saw India defeat Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia to book a semifinal berth. On the other hand, South Africa continued their magnificent run when they defeated the USA, England, and the West Indies one after another.
England started off their Super Eight campaign in an excellent manner, defeating West Indies by eight wickets; however, they were subjected to a seven-run defeat at the hands of the South Africans the very next day. Evaluating the situation properly, they bounced back emphatically to defeat the USA by ten wickets to seal their berth in the semifinals.
It has been a case of hit-and-miss for the Afghans in the championship. Though they won their first match rather convincingly against New Zealand by a good margin of 84 runs, they lost to India and then made up through their win against Australia in the Super Eight round. The historic win against Bangladesh in the last of three Super Eight matches sealed their semifinal spot.
The first semifinal will be played between South Africa and Afghanistan on June 27 at the Brian Lara Stadium, Tarouba, at 6:00 AM IST. Defending champions England will face off against India in the second semifinal on the same day at 8:00 PM IST at Providence Stadium, Guyana.
