Rohit Sharma Pushes Back on Impact Player Role, Sends Strong Signal to Skipper Hardik Pandya

Though used as an Impact Player since the start of the season, Rohit conceded that adapting to this new role hasn't been an easy ride. Sitting out the first innings and coming into the action only later has made it a bit challenging for him to find his rhythm in the game.

Cricketing legend Rohit Sharma at last reminded his fans of his batting prowess, smashing a fiery 76 from a mere 45 balls to lead the Mumbai Indians to their third win on the trot, this time against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings.

Though used as an Impact Player since the start of the season, Rohit conceded that adapting to this new role hasn't been an easy ride. Sitting out the first innings and coming into the action only later has made it a bit challenging for him to find his rhythm in the game.

However, the veteran campaigner is more than happy to play any role the team asks of him.

After a lean spell with the bat, Rohit's return to form is a sight for MI supporters. But at the post-match presentation, the erstwhile MI captain seemed to subtly suggest to present skipper Hardik Pandya what would suit him better.

"It's something we discussed but 2-3 overs doesn't make a big difference but it's not easy when you haven't fielded for 17 overs, that's the thinking but I don't mind that if my team wants me to come immediately and bat," Rohit said when questioned about his role.

The discussion then shifted to a special honor awaiting the veteran at Wankhede — a stand in the legendary stadium is going to be named after him. Overwhelmed with emotion, Rohit reminisced about the moment with a mix of disbelief and humility.

"Looks far away that stand, I loved being out there, for me it is all about remaining out there and completing the game, that is what makes me feel the most proud. We are at our best at the right time, and we have won three consecutive games. It is a great honour; I talked about it as a young boy. We were not permitted to come to the ground at some point. But, having played all my cricket here, and now to get that stand, it is a big honour. Whenever that name is mentioned, I do not know how to respond," he said, visibly moved by the gesture.
