India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has shared the harrowing experience of a car crash he survived 13 months ago, revealing that he feared the amputation of his right leg. Pant was driving from Delhi to his hometown Roorkee in December 2022 when his car crashed into the median divider. The incident occurred after he returned from Bangladesh, where he played a significant role in India's Test win.
Pant recounted the moment after the crash, expressing his fear due to the possibility of nerve damage that could lead to amputation. He highlighted the excruciating pain caused by his right knee dislocating and turning 180 degrees. Luckily, a bystander helped realign the knee before two individuals pulled Pant out of the SUV just before it caught fire.
Following the crash, Pant underwent initial treatment in Dehradun and was later airlifted to Mumbai for surgeries to reconstruct the three ligaments in his right knee. He continued rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
The explosive batter acknowledged the monotony and frustration of the rehabilitation process but emphasized the importance of staying focused on recovery. Despite the setbacks, Pant remains determined to drive again, expressing a belief in overcoming challenges with perseverance and belief.
Pant also mentioned that doctors provided a recovery time of 16 to 18 months, but he aims to reduce that timeline. He is expected to play in the upcoming IPL for Delhi Capitals.
Reflecting on the incident, Pant expressed gratitude for a second life, finding joy in simple activities. Despite being bedridden for a month, he cherished the ability to do normal things again. Pant also shared his anticipation of playing cricket again, emphasizing the importance of belief and determination in overcoming setbacks.
